 Occupation Ceilings 2019-20

Each year thousands of migrants apply for Australia’s Skilled Migration program based on the occupations listed in the Skilled Occupations List (MLTSSL).

Occupation Ceilings refer to the limit on the number of invitations that can be issued through SkillSelect each year per occupation group. This ensures that the skilled migration program is not dominated by a small number of occupations.

Once an occupation group has reached its ceiling, invitations cannot be issued for that programme year. This means that applicants will not be invited to apply for specified visas regardless of their points. Invitations will then be allocated to intending migrants in other occupation groups even if they are lower ranking.

Occupation ceilings do not apply to State or Territory Nominated, Employer Sponsored or Business Innovation and Investment visa subclasses.
