On 1 September 2021, the ACT Government added 16 occupations to its Critical Skills List. This brought the total number of occupations in high demand in Canberra to over 130.

Occupations on the list include Marketing Specialists, Construction Project Managers, Architects, Customer Service Managers, Café and Restaurant Managers, Conference and Event Managers, Policy Analysts, Engineers, Chefs, and Motor Mechanics.

The full list is set out below.

In our professional view, the ACT Government has the best state nomination program of any state or territory government in Australia. The criteria set out in the ACT Matrix are reasonably transparent and information about the management of the program allows intending applicants to understand the reality of whether they will be nominated or not. The information provided by the ACT Government allows you to plan to move to Canberra to facilitate a migration outcome.

In some cases, you may be able to apply for nomination and a visa after living and working in Canberra for just 3 months.

If you have an occupation on the “Critical Skills List”, we encourage you to contact VisAustralia for a formal assessment of your ability to apply for ACT nomination for a Subclass 491 visa or permanent Subclass 190 visa. At the interview, we will assess your accreditation options and discuss the times’ frames and other visa implications of your move to Canberra.

If you do not have an occupation on the Critical Skills List, we still encourage you to contact us to review your future options.
